The literature of England from the Anglo-Saxon period through the eighteenth century, emphasizing representative authors and works and recurring themes, forms, and their variations within the historical context. Among authors and works studied are Beowulf, Chaucer, Spenser, Marlowe, Shakespeare, Donne, Milton, Swift and Pope.
