Dominant literatures, ideas, conventions, attitudes, writers, and influence from Classical Antiquity and the Middle Ages through the Renaissance. Among authors and works studied are Homer, the Bible, the Greek playwrights, Virgil, the Song of Roland, Chaucer, Rabelais, Montaigne, Cervantes, Shakespeare, Donne, and Milton.
